If you struggle with doing a Pilates Roll Up, this is a great preparatory exercise which uses your body leverage to "create space" in your spine to be able to perform this exercise in its more traditional form. While it seems counter-intuitive, you'll want to perform this exercise with as little abdominal work as possible, and using the leverage of your leg and the work of your hip extensors to create the movement. Repeat 3 times on each leg then try that roll up afterwards...it should feel easier!
